According to the Federal Statistical Office, internet radio and TV have become extremely popular in Germany. Thus, 14.2 million people in Germany listened to radio or watched TV via the internet in the first quarter of 2008. As compared to the same quarter in 2007 (10.3 million), this corresponded to an increase by about 38%. This figure also means that 19% of all German citizens older than 10 use the internet for, among other things, radio and TV. One year earlier this percentage had amounted to 14%.
Internet radio and TV are particularly popular among the young generation. More than 39% of the age bracket between 16 and 24 use the internet for watching TV and radio listening. Among those aged between 10 and 15 about one quarter this figure reached 24% and among people between 25 and 44 years of age the percentage of internet radio listeners and TV watchers amounted to 28%. In the age bracket between 45 and 64 the user percentage amounted to 13% and among those people older than 65 years of age to 3%.
