The timetable for Java 9 rolled out

Mark Reinhold, head of development of the Java Standard Edition at Oracle, has unveiled the schedule for the completion and release of Java 9 (OpenJDK). Work on the programming language features should be completed by December 10, 2015, after which no new features should be added.

The subsequent test phase should go on until February 4, 2016, and the errors found should be fixed before July 21, 2016. By this date the first release candidate should also be completed. The official release is scheduled finally for September 22, 2016.

With this schedule, Oracle has fulfilled its declaration that it intends to roll out a new major version of Java every two years. A list of planned improvements and changes to the Java programming language can be found on the project website. (Source: Oracle/rf)
